Anterior Head Syndrome and Neck Pain

Anterior Head Syndrome X-RayAnterior Head Syndrome (AHS) develops when your cervical spine (neck) shifts forward from its correct position. Check out this graphic for normal vs AHS.

Many patients with AHS don’t realize they have this issue. Instead, they come to us after signs and symptoms start to appear.

  • pinched nerves
  • shoulder pain
  • upper back pain
  • elbow issues
  • poor posture or head forward
  • text neck or military neck
  • poor posture
  • balance issues
  • dizziness/vertigo
  • headaches/migraines
  • sinus problems
  • fatigue
  • Dowager Hump
  • carpal tunnel
  • numbness and tingling down their arm/hand

These secondary conditions occur because of a Neuro-Structural shift (NS shift) in your cervical spine. The shift is often caused by a variety of reasons, most commonly by consistent misuse such as looking down on your phone, leaning forward while driving or working on the computer. This NS shift blocks the nerves coming out from your brain, running through your spine to all parts of your body. These nerves carry vital information from your brain to each of these areas and back to your brain. So when NS shifts disrupt your nerve supply in your cervical spine, secondary conditions can appear in those specific areas.

The Bottom Line: By correcting the underlying condition, a Neuro-Structural shift, we help restore the correct alignment of the cervical spine (neck) which is an important step towards restoring and maintaining optimal nerve function, health and wellness for years to come, so you can get back to doing what you love.
