Disc Herniations

Health and wellness is more than just a job for us; we are passionate about helping people live the lives they always wanted through a healthy body. During the holidays, you’re going to be around many friends and family, and health is one of the most commons topics of conversation. I’d like Platinum Chiropractic to be brought up, especially if you think we can help them. One of the most common problems people face is disc herniation.

A herniated or bulging disc often leads to inflammation around the area, which may cause a dull or throbbing pain and stiffness. However, herniated discs don’t always cause these symptoms. In fact, the area around the herniated disc may be completely pain-free.⠀

Other symptoms of a herniated disc result from the disc pressing on a spinal nerve. These are the nerves that allow the brain and spinal cord to communicate with the body; they exit the spinal cord very close to where the discs are located. A herniated disc can easily press on one of these vital nerves. A herniation in the lower back can lead to nerve symptoms in the leg, while a herniation in the neck can cause symptoms in the arm.

Some of the symptoms may include:

It’s also possible for a bulging or herniated disc to cause no symptoms at all. NO SYMPTOMS! Then how do we know we have a herniated disc? This is why it is essential to have a careful and thorough evaluation, rather than assuming a damaged disc is the only cause of your problem.

Does this mean you need surgery? How can chiropractic help? Medical professionals strongly recommend that patients with a herniated disc try non-surgical options first. Other options often include medication and steroid (cortisone) injections.

Chiropractic is an excellent drug-free method of treating the symptoms of a herniated disc by improving the biomechanics and restoring proper nerve supply. With proper nerve supply, your body can heal itself and eventually become pain-free.

A variety of studies have shown that patients with herniated discs can benefit from Neuro-Structural Correction by a chiropractor, with reduced pain and improved function for many people. Chiropractic adjustments will not directly repair a bulging or herniated disc. Rather, specific, Neuro-Structural Chiropractic adjustments can help to take the pressure off of the disc and nerve, so that the body has the opportunity to repair itself.

At Platinum Chiropractic, we rely heavily on our many objective measurements, such as X-rays and MRI’s to accurately assess when there might be a disc problem. The objective measurements give us insight into the inner workings of your body and produce better outcomes for you and your family. If you know anyone with an injured disc, let’s help them out.

Welcome to Platinum Chiropractic we offer Services such as Complimentary Consultations and Neuro-Structural Corrective Chiropractic.
