The Summer Olympics have begun and July is almost coming to a close! OMG can you believe it? This means over here at Platinum we are getting ready for Immune System Health Month.
During the month of August, we like to hi-light the ways you can strengthen your immune system so that by the time we are in the autumn and winter, you are the healthiest you can be and in the best position to fight off whatever comes at you.
Taking control of our own health and the health of our families has never been so important. Let’s take those steps together.
Before we get started with tips, it is important to remember how our Immune Systems work. So here is a little refresher:
Our bodies are constantly under attack from foreign invaders such as environmental toxins, pollutants, bacteria, germs, and viruses. Yes, now with the corona, but even before.
Our immune system is our body’s natural defense against these foreign cells. It is made up of your skin, mucous membranes, tonsils, adenoids, thymus, bone marrow, spleen, appendix, Peyer’s patches, lymph nodes, and circulating white blood cells. All of which continuously communicate with one another and with the whole body to form a protective environment of health and balance.
It is the job of each part of your immune system to identify, communicate with the rest of the body, protect against, and destroy disease-causing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and even the body’s own cells that have malfunctioned and could cause cancer. But that assumes your body and nerve pathways can communicate effectively.
A properly functioning Nervous System is the first priority in strengthening your immune system since it is your nervous system that controls all of your bodily functions.
Our nervous system works by sending and receiving nerve messages or impulses to all parts of our bodies and is protected by our spines, consisting of 24 moveable vertebrae.
When your spine is in its proper position, it protects your nerve pathways. But when your vertebrae become misaligned, interference to your nerve impulses occurs, reducing the overall capacity of your nervous system and of the particular organ to which it is assigned. These spinal misalignments are known as NEURO-STRUCTURAL SHIFTS and lower your immune system’s capacity.
At Platinum Chiropractic, we are looking to OPTIMIZE your immunity. In other words, we are not trying to get a 100 watt light bulb to work at 150 watts. Instead, we do not want a 100 watt light bulb running at 65 watts.
Make sense?
Next week we will start with Tip #1 for Immune System Health Month. Reply and let us know what you think it is.
