Welcome back from what we hope was a lovely Thanksgiving break! Just before the holiday, we had a Movement Workshop full of fun, knowledge, and MOVEMENT! Check out the event recap below.
The two main vocabulary words we discussed were mechanotransduction and hemodynamics.
Mechanotransduction might sound familiar from our Movement & Cellular Health newsletter a few weeks ago. As a refresher, mechanotransduction in our body refers to how cells perceive and respond to mechanical forces. It is a fascinating process through which our bodies convert physical movements and tactile sensations into biochemical signals.
This intricate mechanism allows our nervous system to interpret various forms of touch and motion, leading to an adaptive response. As a result, the body can stimulate the growth of new neural connections, enhancing our ability to perceive and react to our environment. This elegant system plays a crucial role in how we experience the world and adjust to changes in our physical surroundings.
For instance, when we engage in weight training, our body reacts by strengthening our bones. This process affects not only the bones but also every cell throughout our body. Imagine jumping on a trampoline. When you land, the trampoline pushes back against you, affecting every cell, bone, muscle, lymphatic system, and even your organs!
Chiropractic adjustments significantly promote your body’s ability to generate healthier bones, joints, and ligaments. These precise adjustments help realign the vertebrae, enhancing overall function and mobility. By optimizing spinal alignment, chiropractic care stimulates the body’s inherent healing processes, encouraging stronger and more resilient musculoskeletal structures. This holistic approach alleviates discomfort and supports long-term bone and joint health, improving quality of life.
Another important topic we learned about at the Movement Workshop was hemodynamics.
Hemodynamics is a fascinating concept that helps us understand how blood flows in our bodies. Think of blood as a lively river traveling through a bustling city, with our whole body, not just our heart, acting as a powerful pump that moves it through tubes called arteries and veins. This fantastic system is essential for our survival, as it delivers vital things like oxygen and nutrients to our organs and tissues and removes waste products from our cells, keeping everything running smoothly!
The relationship between movement and hemodynamics is significant. Movement is more than exercise. For instance, during any physical activity, not just cardiovascular training, the body requires increased blood flow to deliver oxygen and nutrients to active muscles while removing waste products. This demand leads to changes in hemodynamic parameters, such as increased heart rate and altered blood vessel diameters (vasodilation) to accommodate higher blood flow. Conversely, inadequate movement or prolonged inactivity can lead to poor circulation and increased cardiovascular strain, potentially contributing to various health issues.
The relationship between these concepts suggests that chiropractic adjustments positively influence hemodynamic parameters. For instance, improved spinal alignment enhances nerve function, leading to better heart rate and blood pressure regulation. Research indicates that chiropractic care increases blood circulation and improves heart rate variability, promoting better cardiovascular health.
In summary, both movement and hemodynamics provide valuable insights into your body’s functioning, the importance of physical activity, and how these elements can influence your overall health and well-being.
With these two concepts in mind, Dr. Karo demonstrated specific primal exercises and poses designed to enhance our movement and bodily functions. The hands-on nature of the workshop allowed participants to engage actively, making it accessible to people of all ages and varying levels of physical ability. Many attendees expressed how the exercises improved their understanding of body mechanics and inspired them to incorporate these movements into their daily routines.
At Platinum Chiropractic, we have an exciting opportunity to host impactful events and workshops that cater to our community’s health needs. We aim to provide events like these within communities to reach more people and highlight the importance of movement and chiropractic care. By continuing these interactive workshops, we want everyone to thrive and learn how to achieve optimal health. Let Dr. Karo or the front desk know if you would like us to host an event or workshop for your community.
